Our local director Franco Ekal and his wife Freida are the heart behind our Katilu outreach. Franco grew up in the Agunda Children’s Home. After graduating university and marrying his wife Freida, he has moved back to his home village of Katilu with a passion to minister to orphans, widows, vulnerable youth. Together they have three biological children and have taken in four orphans. Franco is a founding member and leader of their local church. Katilu lacks any other outside ministry help besides the work of Franco and Freida.

Family Style Orphanage

There is an overwhelming need for orphan care in the area. The building of a Children’s home will immediately meet the need for a safe Christian home for 32 orphans. The ministry will meet all of their basic needs and education. Franco and Freida will serve as house parents to provide love, counseling, and discipleship to these children who have endured horrific situations.

Our purpose is to come alongside vulnerable and abused young women, empowering them with Christian counseling and job training that they may find healing from trauma and thrive in society.

Shelter for Abused Women

The newly establish Rescue Center will provide a safe and nurturing residence for young women who have suffered physical or sexual abuse, forced into early marriages or polygamous marriage to much older men, or other forms of human trafficking.

Helping women like

Salphine and her one year old son who need refuge from her father who  regularly beats her up and sends them out in the night without food or shelter to sleep. She is vulnerable to being sold into marriage.

Benta, 15 years old with a 1 1/2 year old baby, is a sweet, bright, young girl. Childhood illness has left her with mental disabilities. Before she reached the age of 13 she was raped by a man in the community and became pregnant.

Faith, 20 years old and mother to two children. She is living with her parents doing manual farming for $2 a day. She is regularly raped by her abusive, alcoholic father which resulted in her pregnancies. She bares a scare on her back from a machete when she tried to resist him. Her mother has tried to intervene but the father threatens to kill them all.

Hair Salon Training Center

Opening a hair salon will also us to provide employment experience for young women who have previously completed the program. It will reduce training cost for new groups coming through the program. Once established it will help to fund the expenses of the Women’s Shelter and daycare.
